News - Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec (CDPQ), together with Investissement Québec, has announced a $12.8-million investment in AddÉnergie, a Québec manufacturer of smart charging solutions for electric vehicles. As part of this transaction, Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec will invest $8.5 million, and Investissement Québec $4.3 million, enabling AddÉnergie to extend its network and technology across Canada.
Economic News - The Québec City region is outperforming its rivals when it comes to business operating costs. The 2016 edition of KPMG's Competitive Alternatives confirms that Québec City continues to be ranked #1 worldwide among comparably sized urban areas (i.e. over 500,000 inhabitants in mature markets) in terms of its competitive cost advantages. According to this biennial study, it is 16.1% cheaper to set up a company and do business in Québec City, compared with the US average — a marked improvement over the 2014 result (9.3% cheaper).
News - A special meeting was held in Lévis to elect the next president of Desjardins Group. The 256 Desjardins officers from Quebec and Ontario that make up the organization's Electoral College elected Guy Cormier as Desjardins Group's new Chair of the Board, President and CEO. Mr. Cormier, currently Senior Vice-President, Cooperative Network and Personal Services, takes over from Monique F. Leroux, who has led the organization since March 2008.
