Economic News - The region regains the first rank for the lowest unemployment rate in Canada, going down from 3.9% in July to 3.7% in August. The Québec City CMA registered 453,900 jobs in August, a loss of 2,900 compared to the previous month.

Economic News - The region counted 460,200 jobs in the second quarter of 2018, an increase of 2,800 jobs compared to the first three months of the year. Despite a downturn in employment in June, the Québec City area did very well in the beginning of the year. A total of 8,000 jobs were created in the first semester of 2018, a contrast with the job losses observed over the first six months of 2016 and 2017. As for the unemployment rate, it remained low, at 3.8%, a slight rise compared to the 3.6% registered in the first quarter of 2018. This increase is linked to the growth of the labour force. Regarding unemployment, the region still managed to maintain the 2nd rank in Canada, behind Peterborough (2.7%).

Economic News - The Québec City CMA recorded a real GDP of $34.8 billion in the third quarter of 2017, a 2.7% growth compared to the same period in 2016. Following the 2.8% growth recorded in the second quarter, this is the first time since 2010 that the CMA was able to record a growth above 2% for two consecutive quarters.
