Broadly speaking, the Cosmétopée Project is an initiative of the Cosmetic Valley competitiveness cluster which, like the therapeutic field and its pharmacopoeia of ingredients, plans to draw up an inventory of plants from around the world that are known for their cosmetic properties, to promote industry innovation by seeking out new, plant-based ingredients. There are many goals, including:
The Cosmétopée Québec database is thus the first practical manifestation of this innovative project at the global level. Developed here by Québec International, the database lists Québec’s main forest and marine resources.
The Québec City region boasts advanced expertise in the cosmeceutical, nutraceutical, and functional food industries. This initiative also highlights the expertise of the regional industrial and scientific actors in these sectors.
Québec International Business Development Director – Life Sciences Jean-Michel Garro presented the Cosmétopée Québec project at 2014 Beyond Beauty in Paris.
The warmly received presentation was given in the presence of Cosmetic Valley Chief Executive and Founding Member Jean-Luc Ansel. Alban Muller, Chief Executive Officer and President of Alban Muller International, and Bernard Marrionaud, Founder of Marionnaud Paris, were among the thirty-odd tradeshow participants who attended the presentation.
When speaking about the presentation later in the evening, Marc Antoine Jamet, President, Cosmetic Valley, and Secretary General, LVMH - Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton Group, said that we “should draw on the vitality and creativity of our Québec cousins.”
Cosmétopée Québec is a unique database that is based on the application of scientific methods throughout the production chain. It was designed to ensure the complete traceability of each and every ingredient drawn from the vast northern territories that characterize the region and the province of Québec to manufacture products. The plants featured in the database can thus be used to develop new ingredients and finished products alike.
A veritable business development tool that fosters scientific, technological, and commercial partnerships between actors in this sector, Cosmétopée Québec is literally a comprehensive inventory of Québec’s main forest and marine resources. It also serves to promote the sharing and exchange of information between research centres and industry stakeholders around the world.
