French multinational OVH, a backronym for “On vous héberge” or “We Host You,” announced on Thursday, April 16, that it had chosen Québec City as the home for its North American R&D centre. The centre will specialize in, among other things, customer experience, and will hire 50 highly skilled employees. It was, moreover, Québec City’s IT expertise that prompted the company to set up shop in the city. OVH will also continue its expansion elsewhere in the province of Québec. The $32.9 million investment project in Québec City and elsewhere in Québec will benefit from $391,300 in financial support from the Government of Québec and the City of Québec.

The announcement of the direct foreign investment was made in the presence of the Minister of the Economy, Innovation and Exports, Jacques Daoust; the Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Solidarity, and Minister responsible for the Capitale-Nationale region, Sam Hamad; the Mayor of Québec City, Régis Labeaume; the Deputy Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of OVH, Henryk Klaba; the Vice-President of User Experience at OVH, Pierre Leroux; and the President and Chief Executive Officer of Québec International, Carl Viel.
