News - Arctic Change, one of the largest international Arctic research conferences in Canada, will be held at the Québec City Convention Centre from December 11 to 15, 2017. The event will bring together some 1,500 researchers, students, decision makers, and stakeholders in every field of Arctic research from around the world. They will discuss the multiple challenges and opportunities brought about by climate change and modernization of the Arctic.
News - Nuvolt Corporation Inc., a pioneer in predictive electrical network and asset monitoring solutions, announced the general availability of its new industrial capacity sensor, SmartScan. This is a new addition to Nuvolt's family of electrical sensors. The SmartScan "Clamp-On" sensor provides the ability to monitor large industrial capacity motors and other electrical assets found in heavy industrial applications.
News - Quebec City-based H2O Innovation, a company that works on custom-built, integrated water treatment solutions for municipal and energy end-users, has been awarded new contracts in the United States and Canada, which total $7 million.
News - EXFO Inc. announced that Philippe Morin will be joining the company as Chief Operating Officer (COO) in early November. Mr. Morin, who has more than 25 years of experience in the telecommunications industry, will leave Ciena as Senior Vice-President of Worldwide Sales and Field Operations on October 31, 2015. Previously, he was Ciena's Senior Vice-President of the Global Products Group and held a number of leadership roles at Nortel Networks including President of Metro Ethernet Networks, Vice-President and General Manager of Optical Networks, as well as having held positions in sales, marketing and product management in North America and Europe.
News - At the end of the first two quarters of 2015, Desjardins Financial Security, a subsidiary of Desjardins Group, specializing in life insurance, health insurance and retirement savings, recorded $240.5 million in net income, compared to $194.8 million for the same period in 2014. Gross insurance premiums grew to $1,940.6 million, an increase of $155.5 million or 8.7% over 2014, nearly $68.0 million of which was generated by State Farm Canadian operations.
News - The scientist who led the work to develop the Ebola drug ZMapp is going to be leaving the National Microbiology Laboratory in Winnipeg. Dr. Gary Kobinger is the lab's chief of special pathogens, heading a team that works on some of the world's worst disease threats. Kobinger will be vacating that position next June to become the director of the Centre for Research in Infectious Diseases at Laval University in Quebec City.
News - Canam-Bridges, a division of Canam Group Inc., announced that it has signed a $225M contract with Signature on the St. Laurence Construction G.P. to supply the steel superstructure for the approaches of the new Champlain Bridge. The contract also includes the fabrication of steel components for the new Île-des-Sœurs Bridge but excludes the cable-stayed section of the new Champlain Bridge. In monetary terms, this is the largest contract ever obtained by Canam Group.
