Québec International and Foreign Investment Prospecting

TallBox-2-ForeignInvestment.pngQuébec International (QI) released the 2014 highlights from its annual report earlier this spring. In the coming weeks we will examine QI’s results and the kind of work our professionals perform as part of our six mandates. Discover the talents of our foreign investment experts.

The economic impact of the investment projects in which Québec International’s foreign investment team was involved in 2014 amounted to $57.2 million in spinoffs.

The team’s objective? Support the 200 foreign company subsidiaries established in the Greater Québec City region and continue its foreign investment prospecting initiatives in the United States, Europe, Asia, and elsewhere to attract other foreign companies. The team offers turnkey assistance for setup and expansion projects alike.

In 2014, QI undertook a number of actions in this regard.

  • Québec International was involved in 29 projects, 9 of which were finalized over the course of the year, creating $56.6 million in economic spinoffs. These announcements led to the creation or consolidation of 165 jobs.
  • Québec International carried out 7 prospecting and promotional missions. It also took part in initiatives in several cities in Asia. These activities provided opportunities to meet with 167 companies and potential investors
  • Thanks to the efforts of Québec International and its partners, in 2014 Québec City hosted the first Professional Forum of the Industrial Asset Management Council to be held outside the United States. It was an opportunity to promote the Québec City region’s many advantages to an influential group of American industrial and corporate real estate actors, many of them Fortune 500 companies.
  • Québec International organized 25 visits by foreign investors on fact-finding missions to Québec City and hosted 14 economic and official delegations.

This is only a brief overview of the actions carried out by QI’s foreign investment team. For full results associated with this Québec International mandate, go to /business-services/support-for-investors-and-subsidiaries/highlights2014/.

What they said

“In Québec City, Solutex found the people, the expertise and the resources it needed to innovate and to expand into North America. Québec International’s team and its partners, including Investissement Québec, played a key role in our decision to open a new subsidiary in Québec from where we run several of the R&D activities that allow us to maintain both our technological edge and our position as a leader in the field of nutraceuticals, natural-ingredient extraction and omega-3.”
