Technology Entrepreneurship and Innovation at Québec International

TallBox-4-Entrepreneurship.pngQuébec International (QI) released the 2014 highlights from its annual report earlier this spring. In the coming weeks, we will examine QI’s results and the kind of work our professionals perform as part of our six mandates. An inside look at the day-to-day work of our experts in technology entrepreneurship and innovation.

High-tech companies contribute greatly to the economic success of the Quebec City region. However, the growth of these companies is heavily dependent upon their ability to innovate. Like the more traditional sectors, the high-tech sector must invest in research and development to increase the added value of its products and services.

Therein lies the reason why Québec International proposes initiatives and offers services for businesses aimed at creating winning conditions that boost entrepreneurship, help technology entrepreneurs with their business projects and foster the better business innovation practices.

$19.2 million in economic benefits: This is the economic impact of the investment projects that Québec International’s techno-entrepreneurship and innovation team worked tirelessly to make a success last year.

Highlights of 2014:

  • Our entrepreneurship support professionals provided 85 consultations through our personalized coaching service. In all, the business that sought these services attracted $17M in potential and secured investments.
  • Our agency continued efforts to develop a business corridor with California and partnered with 6 technology accelerators in the United States.
  • We headed a Quebec delegation at the International Startup Festival, sponsored the PREconference at one of the biggest investment meetings in the world and organized 5 activities on funding, marketing, mangagment and productivity. This involvement led to 5 agreements between research centres and businesses.
  • Our initiatives promoting innovative practices for businesses in the region’s hubs of excellence also attracted over 1,000 participants. The creation of 12 industrial innovation consortiums and projects within these businesses led to $2.2M in economic spin-off.

Here is an outline of the hi-tech entrepreneurship and innovation actions undertaken by Québec International. The full results of this mandate are available here >.

What they said

“I’d like to thank the whole team at Québec International. It was a terrific experience that I strongly recommend for all future entrepreneurs. I cannot even imagine what the next year of work on my project would be like without everything that I learned during the 10-day program! The feedback I got on my project and the course work allowed me to examine my project in a different light, which will push me to take an important step in the coming months.”
