Major American Industrial Association holds its 1st international conference in Quebec City

The Government of Quebec, Investissement Québec, Invest in Canada and Québec International are pleased to be associated with the Industrial Asset Management Council (IAMC) professional forum that will be held in Quebec City. This is the first time that this event will be held outside of the United States. It will be a unique opportunity to showcase the assets of Canada, the province of Quebec and the Quebec City region to a select clientele of American investors. Nearly 400 participants are expected to attend this forum, which will be held from September 13 to 17 at the Quebec City Convention Centre.

Québec International wins two awards from the International Economic Development Council

Québec International (QI) has distinguished itself once again by earning two awards of excellence from the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) at its International Conference, which was held in Fort Worth, Texas, from October 19 to 22, 2014. Québec International won Gold in the category of cities with a population greater than 500,000 for its customized e-newsletter and Bronze for its technology entrepreneurship program. Last year, IEDC presented QI with the Gold award for its Invest in the Québec City Region brochure.

UBISOFT® continues to expand in Quebec City

Following the announcement of an investment of $28 million at its Quebec City studio at Davos in January, Ubisoft confirmed today that it will be investing $4 million of this amount to equip new workspaces in the St-Roch district. This move will ensure the studio’s presence in the neighborhood for the next 14 years. At the same time, Ubisoft revealed that the Quebec studio is ramping up to be lead studio in the production of a future installment of Assassin’s Creed®, one of Ubisoft’s flagship brands and one of the most popular and best-selling video game franchises in the world.

Plant-based vaccines challenge big pharma for $3 billion flu market

Leading producers such as GlaxoSmithKline Plc and Sanofi SA need six months to produce flu vaccine once scientists identify the dominant virus expected to circulate during flu season. Vaccine production from tobacco plants by Quebec City-based Medicago could do it in weeks.

CO2 Solutions Announces Issuance of U.S. Patent

CO2 Solutions Inc., the leader in the field of enzyme-enabled carbon capture technology, announced, in September, it has been granted U.S. Patent No. 8,722,391 entitled Process for CO2 capture using Carbonates and Biocatalysts with Absorption of CO2 and Desorption of Ion-rich Solution.

The Port of Québec welcomes its one millionth cruise ship passenger

In October, the Port of Québec welcomed its one millionth passenger since the construction of the Ross Gaudreault Cruise Terminal in 2002. The passenger arrived October 9 aboard the Seabourn Quest, a ship belonging to Holland America Line (HAL).

For the eighth consecutive year, Québec International has been named one of the Top Canadian Economic Development Groups in Canada’s Best Locations 2014, as announced in the current issue of US-based Site Selection magazine. This ranking pays tribute to the country's top 10 economic development agencies.
