KPMG’s Competitive Alternatives 2014: Quebec City ranked #1 worldwide among similarly-sized cities

According to the results of KPMG’s Competitive Alternatives 2014 released this morning, the Quebec City metropolitan region ranks #1 worldwide among urban areas with 500,000 to two million inhabitants. Overall, business location costs are 9.3% lower in Quebec City in relation to the US average. This is a net improvement from 2012, when this cost advantage was 5.8%.

Ubisoft reinforces its presence in Quebec City

Ubisoft announces its plans to invest CAD 28 million over the course of three years with the goal of creating 100 new jobs at its Quebec City studio. These investments will enable the studio to strengthen its infrastructure and recruit new talents, and take the lead on the development of AAA next-gen games. The Quebec government is supporting the studio's expansion as part of the ESSOR program, with a contribution of CAD 510,000.

Government of Canada Celebrates New Business-Led Research Network in Québec City

The Honourable Greg Rickford, Minister of State (Science and Technology), was in Québec City today to celebrate the new Business-Led Network of Centres of Excellence in Precision Therapeutics (PreThera Research). As a result of the 2014 Business-Led Networks of Centres of Excellence (BL-NCE) competition, PreThera Research was awarded $15 million. This support will enable the Network's researchers to apply their knowledge of biomarkers

Université Laval creates the Goldcorp Research and Innovation Chair in Natural Resources and Energy Law

Université Laval is creating the first-ever chair devoted to the study of natural resources and energy law from a domestic and international perspective. University rector Denis Brière made the announcement in the presence of the Chair’s financial partners, represented by Goldcorp Inc. senior vice president, corporate affairs, Brent Bergeron, and Fasken Martineau managing partner, Québec region, Éric Bédard.

Canam Group Acquires an Engineering Firm Specialized in Wood Structures

Canam Group announces the acquisition of a 66% interest in an engineering firm that specializes in wood structures. The transaction, the amount of which has not been disclosed, was completed in the final days of 2013. The company, called Massif Technologies, is composed of a group of engineers and technicians who are specialized in designing non-residential buildings featuring a wooden frame or wood components. The Company, which has offices in Quebec City and Saguenay, also has expertise in project management. 


Desjardins Group to acquire State Farm® Canada businesses

Desjardins Group, the leading cooperative financial group in Canada, and State Farm®, the largest P&C mutual insurance company in the United States, today announced that they have entered into a definitive agreement under which Desjardins Group will purchase State Farm Canada’s businesses in property and casualty and life insurance, as well as its Canadian mutual fund, loan and living benefits companies.

 Leclerc Foods USA, a North American leader in the cookie, snack bar and cracker industry, is pleased to announce the acquisition of a 166,500-square-foot building in the Freeport Business Center for expansion of its food manufacturing operations inPhoenix, Arizona. "This acquisition fits our business vision and corporate development strategy. It will allow us to position ourselves near our U.S. clients as well as hone in on food trends in the U.S. West Coast," asserts Denis Leclerc, President of Leclerc Foods USA.

Québec City Convention Centre’s kitchens welcome chefs of 5 heads of state

Things are steaming up in the Québec City Convention Centre’s kitchens. Tonight’s the night when the chefs of five heads of state will whip up a gourmet fundraising dinner for 200 of the city’s most generous foodies. Chefs from the presidential kitchens of the countries of Monaco, Italy, South Africa, Germany, and France will prepare the banquet alongside the Convention Centre’s Executive Chef Gérard Michel.
