Thales to Host the Joint Research Unit in Urban Science, Quebec City to Become a Life-Size Urban Lab

A $19.2M project will provide Quebec City with a new urban science joint research lab around which will be built a world-class open innovation ecosystem in this emerging multidisciplinary field of knowledge. In partnership with Quebec City authorities, Laval University, the National Institute of Scientific Research (INRS), the Quebec Metro High Tech Park and Thales Canada Inc., and with the support of the Government of the Province of Quebec, the Joint Research Unit aims to position the citizen at the center of municipal activities and to design urban science solutions for the future, in areas such as water and power management, urban spaces and infrastructure and individual, asset and data mobility and safety.

French multinational OVH, a backronym for “On vous héberge” or “We Host You,” announced that it had chosen Québec City as the home for its North American R&D centre. The centre will specialize in, among other things, customer experience, and will hire 50 highly skilled employees.

Larian Studios, the award-winning Belgian developer of hits like Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Dragon Commander, officially announced its plans to establish a studio in Quebec City. Larian Québec, a subsidiary of the acclaimed developer, will begin work on new games and take advantage of the talent and creativity that abound in Quebec City. The company is currently in hiring mode and aims to employ 40 people in Quebec City over the next three years.

 

Opsens announces first use of its FFR products in Europe with Dr De Bruyne

Quebec entrepreneurs drive ‘social industrial revolution’

Those cumbersome paper-based training manuals could soon become a relic on the factory floor if technology created by two Quebec-based entrepreneurs takes off. Alexandre Leclerc and Antoine Bisson founded Poka, a social platform for manufacturers to train staff using videos and other interactive content to be shared in real time through an iPad app. Poka claims its technology is helping to drive “the social industrial revolution.”

Quebec City's Largest Data Centre: Videotron Acquires 4Degrees Colocation

Videotron is pleased to announce that it has acquired 4Degrees Colocation and its data centre, the largest in Québec City. The amount of the transaction is $31.5 million, which could increase to $35.5 million if certain targets are reached. Acquisition of the data centre will give Videotron Business Solutions a significant advantage when it comes to offering bundled services to Québec businesses, which are increasingly interested in digitizing and decentralizing their data servers. 4Degrees is one of the few data centres in Québec to be Tier III certified by the Uptime Institute.
