Quebec International’s Invest in the Quebec City region brochure receives canadian and international honours

Quebec International’s Invest in the Quebec City Region brochure was honoured at the Marketing Canada Awards organized by the Economic Development Association of Canada (EDAC) and held in St. John’s, Newfoundland on September 24. In addition, the Washington-based International Economic Development Council (IEDC) presented Quebec International with its award of excellence today at its annual conference in Philadelphia, which attracted more than 1,300 participants from 17 countries.

Released in April 2013, the brochure seeks to promote the Quebec City region’s main competitive advantages to relayers and foreign investors. It was produced in collaboration with Deloitte, which conducted a portion of the strategic research and analysis, as well as the LG2 agency, which contributed creative talent.

ABB CANADA partners on bid for $2 billion Close Combat Vehicle Program

ABB is partnering with BAE System and Saab in a competitive bid for the Department of National Defence (DND) $2 billion Close Combat Vehicle (CCV) program. The Canadian Army requires high survival medium weight vehicles for future missions. The bid includes a total of 108 vehicles along with an option for the purchase of an additional 30 vehicles. A significant portion of the vehicle will be manufactured in Canada through the government's Indus¬trial Regional Bene¬fits (IRB) program. IRB policy requires business activity in the Canadian economy equal to 100 per cent of the contract value.

Construction of the C-LAVIE Complex in Québec City - Héma-Québec takes on cell production

Héma-Québec, Québec City and the Government of Québec announce the construction of the C∙LAVIE complex, a cell production facility representing an investment of $21.5Mthat will be built in the Michelet innovation space within the territory of Québec City. The new building, with an area of 3,716 square metres, will provide a controlled environment (white rooms) that complies with good manufacturing practises (GMP), a pre-requisite for regulatory product approval. For the first few years, it will primarily be used to manufacture standardized cell and tissue products for clinical studies. Eventually, it will also ensure large-scale production of approved cellular medications.

CO2 Solutions Completes First Alberta Oil Sands Project Milestones

CO2 Solutions announces that it has met and exceeded the first two technical performance milestones for its Alberta Oil Sands project. The Company demonstrated its patented carbon capture technology is at least one-third less expensive than existing carbon capture technology in terms of energy consumption, and can withstand the rigors of industrial application.


Readers of Travel+ Leisure magazine rank Québec City as the best destination in the country

The prestigious tourism magazine, Travel+Leisure, just published the results of its 2013 World’s Best Awards, and its readers have spoken: Québec City is the top destination in Canada and the eighth best in North America.  Québec City has moved up a rung since last year, surpassing Vancouver as the most popular Canadian destination. This achievement means Québec City keeps its prized spot in the Hall of Fame, a select group of destinations that have ranked highly for ten or more consecutive years.


Industrial Alliance Completes Acquisition of Jovian Capital Corporation

Industrial Alliance Insurance and Financial Services and Jovian Capital Corporation announces the completion of the acquisition through a plan of arrangement of all the outstanding common shares of Jovian at $10.23 per share, for the aggregate consideration of approximately $79 million in cash and the issuance of 295,253 common shares of Industrial Alliance.

100% Pure Maple Syrup: A beneficial consumption when compared to other sweetening agents

The conclusions of a new study, presented in Québec City as part of the 7th Scientific Meeting of the International Society of Nutrigenetics and Nutrigenomics, show a favourable link between maple syrup and metabolic health. The in vivo study, conducted by a team led by Dr. André Marette, who holds a Ph. D. from Université Laval, aimed to compare the glycemic index of maple syrup to that of other sweetening agents, including brown rice syrup, corn syrup, agave syrup, honey, molasses and benchmark solution (dextrose), on healthy animals.

Smart21: Quebec City takes the first step towards being named the Intelligent Community of 2014

For the third time in its history, Quebec City has been selected as one of the Smart21 Communities of the Year. This international honour was awarded by the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF), an independent New York-based organization dedicated to studying the economic and social aspects of communities using innovative new technologies. The announcement was made by one of the ICF’s co-founders, Louis Zacharilla, at a symposium organized by Walsh University’s Institute for the Study of the Intelligent Community in Ohio. Some 400 applications were received from cities and regions around the world.
