Thales Canada Wins Five-Year, $20M R&D Contract With National Defence

Thales Canada announced today that it has been awarded a five-year, $20 million contract to lead innovative science and technology projects enhancing Canada’s public safety and national security. The work will be led by Thales Canada from the new Thales Research and Technology Canada Centre in Quebec City. Thales and a team of 18 technology partners will carry out the work for Defence Research and Development Canada (DRDC), a division of National Defence.

 

ABB CANADA partners on bid for $2 billion Close Combat Vehicle Program

ABB is partnering with BAE System and Saab in a competitive bid for the Department of National Defence (DND) $2 billion Close Combat Vehicle (CCV) program. The Canadian Army requires high survival medium weight vehicles for future missions. The bid includes a total of 108 vehicles along with an option for the purchase of an additional 30 vehicles. A significant portion of the vehicle will be manufactured in Canada through the government's Indus¬trial Regional Bene¬fits (IRB) program. IRB policy requires business activity in the Canadian economy equal to 100 per cent of the contract value.

4Degres: The Biggest, Most Secure Internet Data Centre Ever Built in Quebec City

Over the course of the next few weeks, construction will begin on the largest Internet data centre ever built in Quebec City. 4Degrés, which will be located in the Quebec Metro High Tech Park, is the only centre to benefit from a 14.2 megawatt power supply agreement for a single strategic block signed with Hydro-Québec, enabling it to attain the Tier III level of security. Martin Bouchard, founder of Copernic and co-founder of Coveo, is at the helm of this unique project, which guarantees the secure housing of computer servers in a colocation facility.

 

The New LeddarTM Sensor Evaluation Kit Awarded at Sensors Expo 2013

LeddarTech, creator of the unique and patented LeddarTM LED Detection and Ranging Technology, won big at this year’s Sensors Expo 2013. Optosecurity receives major order for its Liquid Explosive Detection software upgrade

Optosecurity a leader in liquid detection technology announced today that it has received a first major purchase order for its OptoScreener software upgrade solution. Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is moving forward with liquid detection in preparation for the upcoming partial liquid ban lift in Europe, in January 2014. This purchase order is significant for Optosecurity and Amsterdam Schiphol Airport is planning for further orders in the next few months.

 

TeraXion and the National Research Council’s Canadian Photonic Fabrication Center announce a strategic partnership

TeraXion and the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) announce today a strategic partnership which will lead to the development and fabrication of TeraXion’s new modulator products family and covers its next-generation Indium Phosphide high-speed modulators for coherent transmission systems at 100 Gb/s and beyond. Work will take place at NRC’s Canadian Photonics Fabrication Centre in Ottawa.

Gentec-EO custom calorimeters were chosen to measure the high energies of the BELLA petawatt laser due to their high damage thresholds, high sensitivity, and outstanding signal-to-noise ratios. In July of 2012, the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBL; Berkeley, CA) acquired the Berkeley Lab Laser Accelerator (BELLA), developed and constructed by the French laser manufacturer Thales, which holds the world record for instant peak power.

 

Release of game trailer for - Assassin's Creed IV Freedom Cry

The first trailer for the game Assassin's Creed IV Freedom Cry is finally out! Produced entirely in Quebec, it is now available on line and will be accessible via live stream from theAssassin's Creed IV Black Flag game in stores starting October 29. The Assassin's Creed IV Freedom Cry trailer was created with the collaboration of partners in Quebec City:Sunny Side Up Creative did the conception and production work, while Squeeze Studio Animation created the 3D scenes and participated in the conception. SAGA produced the live action scenes, and Studio Elément took care of post-production.

AMETEK announced that it has acquired Creaform, Inc., a leading developer and manufacturer of innovative portable 3D measurement technologies and a provider of 3D engineering services for approximately $120 million.  Based near Québec City, Canada, the privately held company has annual sales of approximately $52 million.

 

TSA to Evaluate Optosecurity Solutions for Checkpoint Screening and Management

In its continuing effort to identify, evaluate, and implement risk-based security solutions, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has awarded a contract to Optosecurity Corporation under the Transportation Security Innovative Concepts Broad Agency Announcement.  Under this contract, Optosecurity will provide TSA with OptoScreener and eVelocity, advanced detection and screening management software and hardware to be installed and tested in various TSA evaluation locations.
