Readers of Travel+ Leisure magazine rank Québec City as the best destination in the country

The prestigious tourism magazine, Travel+Leisure, just published the results of its 2013 World’s Best Awards, and its readers have spoken: Québec City is the top destination in Canada and the eighth best in North America.  Québec City has moved up a rung since last year, surpassing Vancouver as the most popular Canadian destination. This achievement means Québec City keeps its prized spot in the Hall of Fame, a select group of destinations that have ranked highly for ten or more consecutive years.

The readers of Condé Nast Traveler have spoken: in the latest edition of the prestigious U.S. magazine’s annual ranking, to be published in November, Québec City was voted 10th best destination in the world, 3rd best in North America and No. 1 in Canada. “It’s a great feeling. Year after year, Condé Nast Traveler readers consistently give Québec City a top spot,” said Québec City Tourism board chair Pierre Tremblay. “It’s a team effort. The outstanding work of everyone in the tourism industry, all across the region, is what keeps us among the world’s very best tourism destinations.”

St-Roch among Lonely Planet’s Top 10 revamped neighbourhoods

Gone are the days when Saint-Roch was best known for its empty lots and unpopular shopping mall. Québec City’s most popular neighbourhood is also its most innovative, with IT companies and emerging designers setting up shop along Saint Joseph’s Street. The Route 440 overpass is covered with colourful frescoes that make this urban setting heaps more inviting. Saint-Roch is stocked with restaurants by day and indie music venues by night, while fashion boutiques and artisanal breweries fill in the gaps.
