Carl Viel, Québec International (QI)’s Chief Executive Officer, is proud to announce that the region and its Economic Development Agency have received a record 12 prizes over the past few weeks. Several QI initiatives dedicated to promoting the region, attracting foreign talent and supporting key regional clusters were deemed to be among the best in the world.
Québec International was honoured at the International Economic Development Council (IEDC)’s annual conference, which took place in Toronto this week. Agency representatives received no fewer than 8 prizes at the awards ceremony for the IEDC’s 2017 Excellence in Economic Development Awards as well as the American Cities of the Future 2017-2018 awards from British magazine fDi, which is a division of the Financial Times.
Three of Québec International’s initiatives stood out among the nearly 600 submissions received by the IEDC in 24 categories recognizing the world’s best programs, marketing tools and economic development leaders.
Announced earlier this year, the distinctions received from British magazine fDi (Financial Times)’s “American Cities of the Future 2017-2018” rankings were also awarded in Toronto. Québec International and Québec City were named in 5 categories, ranking second in Canada in the world rankings, first in the “Economic Potential” and “Human Capital and Lifestyle” categories and third in the “FDI Strategy” and “Business Friendliness” categories.
Another awards ceremony took place on September 12 as part of the Economic Developers Association of Canada’s annual conference, which took place in Niagara Falls, Ontario. Québec International stood out once again, receiving a Marketing Canada Award for its “The Québec City area, it’s simple” brochure. These Canadian awards highlight the best regional practices and initiatives employed by Canadian communities and economic development agencies across the country.
What’s more, the September 2017 edition of American magazine Site Selection included its list of the top 10 economic development agencies in the country. For the 11th year in a row, Québec International was named one of the “Top Canadian Economic Development Groups,” distinguishing it as a Canadian economic development champion. Québec International is the only Canadian agency to remain on the list for so long.
Finally, British magazine CEO Monthly, published by the internationally recognized publisher AI GLOBAL MEDIA, recently revealed the winners of its “Global CEO Excellence Awards 2017,” which recognize the remarkable work of leaders from around the world. Québec International and its Chief Executive Officer, Carl Viel, received two awards: Best International Trade & Development CEO – Canada and Excellence Award for International Recruitment Services – Canada.
“Québec International has demonstrated solid leadership and an innovative approach by implementing effective actions that meet the needs of our businesses and our region. I am very proud of these exceptional results, which were made possible by the commitment of the entire QI team and the remarkable work we do each day to promote our region on an international scale and encourage the growth of our regional economy. The fact that we have been recognized by our peers and the foremost observers on the world economic scene only encourages us to pursue our commitment and double our efforts to grow our region,” stated Carl Viel, Chief Executive Officer of Québec International.
