Quebec International marks its anniversary with a successful year

Quebec International made public today its annual activity report for 2013, marking the 10th anniversary of the Quebec City-based economic development agency. The report describes the initiatives undertaken by Quebec International’s professional staff in the areas of economic promotion, investment attraction, international recruitment, entrepreneurship/innovation support and the development of excellence hubs whose economic benefits are valued at nearly $205 million.

Many successful efforts were undertaken throughout the year to develop and export regional expertise and to attract talent and investment. In this regard, Quebec International released 30 economic and promotional publications and received 9 awards and other distinctions. It also organized 107 training activities and business events, took part in 29 international missions and welcomed 42 trade delegations. In total, approximately 4,000 people representing 980 companies and research centres took part in these initiatives—a clear indication of the relevance of the services offered and of the business community’s support for Quebec International’s mission.

Once again this year, the results obtained are significant, with economic benefits totalling $204.6 million. Quebec International helped to attract $115 million in foreign investment to the region. The assistance provided to technology entrepreneurs and the innovation support initiatives generated more than $24.5 million. Quebec International’s international recruitment initiatives helped to attract 202 qualified foreign workers (their contribution to the regional economy is valued at $30 million on an annualized basis). In addition, efforts to support local companies operating in international markets generated $35.1 million in real or anticipated sales over a 12-month horizon.

“Quebec International is proud to play a part in the economic success of the Quebec City region, which has been among the top-performing areas in the country for the past several years. The results show that Quebec International is strongly committed to contributing to regional development by promoting strategic initiatives and by offering increasingly effective business support services,” said Carl Viel, President and CEO of Quebec International.
