This talk will describe an exciting new research collaboration between McGill University and Alimentation Couche-Tard - the Retail Innovation Lab. This lab, which houses a fully operational convenience store with cutting-edge techology such as the first frictionless retail store in Canada, permits the application and testing of new technologies in a real-world setting. This talk will outline the technical capabilities of the lab as well as give details on some of the research projects being carried out.

James J. Clark is a Full Professor in the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at McGill University, where he is currently co-Director of McGill's Retail Innovation Lab. Previously, he was director of the McGill Research Centre for Intelligent Machines. Prior to coming to McGill he was an Associate Professor in the Division of Applied Science at Harvard University and worked at the Nissan Cambridge Basic Research lab as a consulant and visiting research scientist. He holds B.A.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of British Columbia. In 2014 he was honored by the Canadian Image Processing and Pattern Recognition Society (CIPPRS) with their annual Award for Research Excellence. He was co-General Chair for the 2021 International Conference on Computer Vision (ICCV).
